The bow of the yacht is seriously damaged and the beautiful mahogany has impact damage
It is a sad sight, the yacht is listing to port because of breach of the hull at the stern
The sun deck of the yacht is heavily damaged at the stern.
The beautiful mahogany of the yacht is clearly seen here
Close up of the Starboard side of the yacht at the stern
It is sad to see a famous yacht end up like this.
However later it was learnt that someone has purchased the yacht to refit her.
ACAJOU is a L'Esterel Yacht built in 1983
This yacht was built in 1983 for the
new owner of shipyard Les Chantiers Navals De L'Esterel
she was designed by Jon Bannenberg and originally
intended to be of aluminium hull. However the yard
insisted on building the yacht in wood and her hull became
of beautiful varnished mahogany. She is a famous yacht and to see her in this condition is rather sad.

Unfortunately on 15/Feb/05
a very bad storm hit the coast of Athens with winds
of up to 11 beaufort. The breakwater at Marina Zeas
was smashed in 6 places by the waves. Many of the
yachts broke their moorings and drifted. Acajou
was sadly very badly damaged.
On 31/Aug/05 we finally
located ACAJOU at a Shipyard in Perama. Unfortunately
the damage was seen to be even worse than expected.
Her hull is ripped open at the stern and her shafts
mangled. There did not seem to be any repairs beginning.
It will be an expensive project. Perhaps someone
will undertake to restore this piece of yachting
history to her previous beauty.
