ACAJOU at Zea Marina 10/Nov/04.
This photo shows the great colour of her hull
ACAJOU is a Esterel yacht built in 1983
Built in 1983 for the
new owner of shipyard Les Chantiers Navals De L'Esterel
she was designed by Jon Bannenberg and originally
intended to be of aluminium hull. However the yard
insisted on building in wood and her hull became
of beautiful varnished mahogany.

Unfortunately on 15/Feb/05
a very bad storm hit the coast of Athens with winds
of up to 11 beaufort. The breakwater at Marina Zeas
was smashed in 6 places by the waves. Many of the
yachts broke their moorings and drifted. Acajou
was sadly very badly damaged.
On 31/Aug/05 we finally
located ACAJOU at a Shipyard in Perama. Unfortunately
the damage was seen to be even worse than expected.
Her hull is ripped open at the stern and her shafts
mangled. There did not seem to be any repairs beginning.
It will be an expensive project. Perhaps someone
will undertake to restore this piece of yachting
history to her previous beauty.
